Andrew recently arrived in Vancouver after an exemplary and rewarding 31-year career as a teacher and Principal with Edmonton Public Schools. He was the only Principal in the District with experience at all four Divisions (K-12). Andrew taught Mathematics, Science and Physical Education (in addition to a handful of other subjects) for 16 years while in the classroom, before he was offered an administrative role. Even in his role as the school leader, Andrew maintained that he was first and foremost a teacher. He also supported the learning of ESL and Special Needs students in the classroom. Andrew prides himself on his ability to build strong relationships and differentiate instruction and assessment to meet diverse student needs. He has also taken his experience outside of the classroom to successfully tutor dozens of students in Mathematics and Science at the Grades 7-10 level within the community.

Xiaoyan is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Teaching Languages in Global Contexts at SFU. With over 10 years of experience in language education across China, Chile, the United States, and Canada, she brings strong cross-cultural communication skills, effective teaching approaches, and a deep understanding of diverse learner needs. She believes students learn best when they feel valued, respected, and free from the fear of making mistakes. She is committed to creating an inclusive, student-centered, and empowering learning environment that enables learners to reach their full potential.

With several years of experience as both a tutor and a teaching assistant, I’ve had the opportunity to help students of all backgrounds understand and excel in Maths, Physics, and language skills for ESL/IELTS. I have experience working both one-on-one and leading group sessions, adapting my approach to meet each student’s individual needs and learning style. My goal is to make complex concepts simple and approachable, building confidence and fostering academic growth. I always try to make learning engaging and clear, whether you’re preparing for exams, tackling tough problems, or refining your language skills.
